Meet the team! Noah Nichols

Last but definitely not least for our Meet the Team blogs is our drummer extraordinaire, general knowledge guru and all-round creative soul, Noah Nichols. When he’s not behind the kit at a Mustud show he’s explaining the origins of the paradiddle in the studio, gigging with his band Dez, working nightshifts, making art, and absorbing beer and strange facts to reel off at any given moment. The guy does not sleep.

You can find more about Noah below, and follow his band here: https://www.facebook.com/DezBand/

What podcast/album/playlist are you listening to right now?  “Romantic” by Slow Hollows, and “Birdie” by Slaughter Beach Dog.

Who are your favourite Melbourne artists right now? Probably Whoretopsy, also my mate Benjamin Trillado.

What did you want to be when you were a kid? At the time I guess I didn’t really aspire to much, I had like ADHD or something so didn’t think that far ahead to be honest!

What is your secret talent? I do a lot of art, I also am qualified to build light aircraft.

What made you choose your instrument? It was the instrument my mates needed for their band, so I was like, guess I’ll do it.

What three things would you take on a desert island? Kukri, duct tape, how to survive on a desert island (the book)

What song do you never want to hear again? I did a 3000 word analysis of “Land Down Under” once, so I’ve heard that one enough.

What is your favourite thing about teaching? It’s nice to feel like you are having a positive impact on peoples lives.

If you were in a band, what would it be called and what style would you play? The next band I’m starting is called Electric Death Commission and it’s a mix of doom, western and indie rock.

What is your favourite way to spend Sunday? Generally I like to do a thorough clean of my house and do laundry, then just play some music or see a mate.

What advice would you give to your 12 year old self? Keep doing sports/ exercising and try and learn another language!

Can you cook? What is your signature dish?

Not really. My go-to is tomato and mushrooms fried in balsamic vinegar and seeded mustard. Whack it on some toast with avocado, spinach, spicy chutney and cheese.

Who would play you in a movie about your life? I really like Steve Buscemi as an actor, so him. Even though he looks nothing like me.

What kind of animal do you relate to? My cat Elizabeth, I don’t know many other animals well enough to relate to them!

If you weren't a musician, what would you be doing? Probably painting or just making coffee, which I do anyway!
